My new company turned 2 years old!

I founded a company with my partner Nelson Grande called Avenida Productions

In two years we've helped raise $1.3 million via crowdfunding and have helped over 60 projects
get made.

I'm so happy that our efforts have helped so many creators.

My first client ever has a move called Shine
which is being released in theaters in October.
That's proof that activating a community behind a mission works!

Devious Maids...Oh my.

Watched the pilot for Devious Maids, to all of you that said I shouldn't complain until I watched it, well I watched it and now I can say what's on my mind. This is obviously an over the top farce, and that's how I watched it.

The way the Latinas are portrayed is just sad. They made sure to add a salsa or Latin like music soundtrack to EVERY SCENE. On the first scene of the pilot they of course have to threaten the maid with deportation. It seems like they were trying really hard to add every Latina stereotype into this episode. The sexy Latina, the Latina with an accent, the Illegal Latina, and of course the ever present Latina Maid. There are some great moments specially the scenes played by Dania Ramirez, but I know Dania, she is not Mexican and she does not have an accent. The other Latina Actresses are really trying to give their characters texture, that it's obvious, so I applaud them for that. The way the rich people were portrayed was just offensive. They are portrayed as the worst people on earth, a maid is just killed and her boss is preoccupied as to whom is going to clean it up. Time and time again one of the maids is told, you are not a maid because you have no accent.

Eva Longoria's argument is that these stories are worth being told. Yes they are, but with dignity not ridicule. Besides, Hollywood has been telling the story of the maid for decades now.

I'm baffled that the National Hispanic Media Coalition and the NCLR are supporting this TV show and not my film. I have invited them repeatedly to my screenings and requested support and have been ignored, declined, or told there are no resources to support me and my mission.

So yes, BRAVO there's finally a show with 5 Latinas on TV... 5 caricatures of what it is to be a Latina.

As a community in Hollywood we are settling. We are telling each other, wow Marc Cherry is paying attention to Latinos and we must be grateful. I saw him speak at a conference last week and he said he was making the risky decision by casting All Latinas as maids, no he took the easy choice to perpetuate the stereotype.

I know some of you will disagree with me, but I do not care. This is how I feel. If you're with me, please support me on my mission of creating Latino characters that are three dimensional and portray us with dignity!

I also found this great graphic illustrating what Latinas are in this country. This is who we are.

We are mothers, professionals, artists, entrepreneurs, doctors, astronauts, supreme court judges, journalists, actresses...We are more than the media portrays us as and we deserve to be represented as we are.
